Liz Trotta Wishes the Death of A Presidential Candidate on Fox News

It is shameful that we live in a time when it is commonplace to make deathwish jokes about a presidential candidate. In the video (above) Liz Trotta on Fox News Channel makes a joke first confusing Obama with "Osama" (Bin Laden) and jokes that she wishes they would both be killed. This appalling comment does not belong in any public discussion and people who feel this way should not have any airtime nor be supported by a news channel.

There is a petition to have Fox News fire Liz Trotta for these remarks.

President Bush Is Trying to Pardon Himself of War Crimes in Advance

Cafferty File: CNN:
QUOTE: President Bush is trying to pardon - himself. - " Under the War Crimes Act, violations of the Geneva Conventions are felonies, in some cases punishable by death. When the Supreme Court ruled that the Geneva Convention applied to al Qaeda and Taliban detainees, President Bush and his boys were suddenly in big trouble. -They've- been working these prisoners over pretty good. In an effort to avoid possible prosecution they're trying to cram this bill through Congress before the end of the week before Congress adjourns. The reason there's such a rush to do this? If the Democrats get control of the House in November this kind of legislation probably wouldn't pass."

Our Nation: Thinking Forward.

Presidential hopeful, Barak Obama, delivers a truly historic speech--not because the speech was delivered at a historic moment or at a momentous event--the reason for the level of significance to this speech is purely in terms of content. This speech, though dealing with race and inequality, does not blame or plead. It presents a common reality and illustrates a struggle that effects all people living within our extended communities. The content of this speech lives beyond Obama's campaign and into a greater meditative look at the betterment of our nation. This moment, depending on our actions in the coming months and years, will take the world into a definative direction. We have so many tools at the tips of our fingers--one being information and resources attached to the internet. The direction we move can make positive strides towards humanitarian gains or, in the opposite direction, taking on fundamental loses in human life and diginity. Such directions span questions that are greater than the War in Iraq, and involve more deeply entrenched conceptions and habits such as the way our name does business, value of human life over channels of profit, and more philosophcal questions of human freedom and education. Such questions are sparked by Barak Obama's speech, but just as he says, it will continue beyond himself.

News and Current Events:

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The mystery behind who produced an elaborate Internet ad disgracing Senator Hillary Clinton and promoting Senator Barack Obama has been uncovered. Phillip de Vellis, a Democrat and Obama supporter, said he made the video "because I wanted to express my feelings about the Democratic primary, and because I wanted to show that an individual citizen can affect the process."

De Vellis was an employee with Blue State Digital, an Internet company that provides technology to presidential campaigns, including Obama's. De Vellis said he resigned from the company "so as not to harm them, even by implication." The company issued a statement Wednesday, saying he was terminated.

"Pursuant to company policy regarding outside political work or commentary on behalf of our clients or otherwise, Mr. de Vellis has been terminated from Blue State Digital effective immediately.

"Mr. de Vellis created this video on his own time. It was done without the knowledge of management, and was in no way tied to his work at the firm or our formal engagement [on technology pursuits] with the Obama campaign."

The company said it is under contract with Obama's campaign for technology pursuits, but it is not currently engaged in a relationship with the campaign for services. One of Blue State Digital's founding partners is, however, on leave to work directly with Obama's campaign headquarters.

gas prices

As reported on CNN.com:

With gas prices near all-time highs and the price of crude oil repeatedly setting records, CNN.com users say they have changed their daily routines or are feeling the pinch from rising energy costs. "No trips on days off, no movies, no dinners out," said one reader who wrote in to voice frustration.

No Child Left Behind

In order to meet the requirements of the educational law set forth by the No Child Left Behind program, many schools are cutting back on or eliminating subjects that do not directly correlate to the testing materials.

Mobile Homelessness

The number of people using their vehicles as primary shelter has increases this year. Often these homeless people consider this solution temporary--many of whom still have jobs or are raising children. In many states living in your automobile is illegal in most areas.
For example: In 2001, officials in Lynnwood, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, passed an ordinance imposing penalties of 90 days in jail or fines of up to $1,000 against people caught living in their cars. The number of "mobile homeless," as they are often called, tends to climb whenever the cost of housing outpaces wages, Dr. Hopper said. Last year was the first year on record, according to an annual study conducted by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, that a full-time worker at minimum wage could not afford a one-bedroom apartment anywhere in the country at average market rates.
